Most people have the same skin struggles when wintertime hits. Their skin is soooo dry. Some people are breaking out while others have angry skin or dry patches. Some struggle with all of the above. ?So what should you do?
It’s important to change up your skin routine in the winter. With cold weather, heaters blasting, and dehydrated skin from not drinking as much water, your skin needs different products than it does in the spring or summer. You don’t have to buy a whole new slew of products. Sometimes just changing out a couple of things is all you need!
Step up the scrub
It’s so important to exfoliate in the winter. With dead, dry skin piling up on your face how is your moisturizer supposed to work correctly? If you’re not exfoliating at all – start! If you are, but you seem to still have dead skin hanging around, do it more often. Start with at least one time a week and go from there. If you are using a more intense scrub, say a micro-exfoliating one, make sure to follow the instructions. Overdoing it is not good for your skin and can cause more aggravation.
Load on the moisturizer
Get a heavier moisturizer. Don’t be afraid, people! Even if you struggle with acne. Just make sure it will not break you out… try to find something that says “non-comedogenic”. If the product does not specify ask someone in the store about it. Use a moisturizer twice a day and try to apply when your skin is still slightly damp from cleansing it.
Ditch that harsh cleanser
If these steps help, but your skin is still drier than you’d like, try using a gentler more hydrating cleanser. Switch out your stronger cleanser and put it away to use again in the spring. Also, throw in a hydrating mask once a week.
For my acne-prone clients: I’ve seen a lot of you with angry skin and breakouts. It’s important for you to make some changes. ☝?If your skin is red and breaking out stop using those harsh acne cleansers in the winter. You can still use acne-fighting ingredients, but you need to find something not as strong. I have switched my summer cleanser to our YERBA MATÉ and I absolutely love it! I already have a couple of you on it too! It still helps my breakouts but has made my skin a lot less dry. Also, you still need exfoliation, but be GENTLE. As I tell a lot of you often, scrubbing your face too hard or too often can open breakouts up and spread them. It can also just continue to make your face angry. The goal is to make your skin calm again. Use calm, gentler, more hydrating products and watch your skin start to get better!
My three favorite products to help with dry or freaking out skin are from the line we carry, Skin by Ann Webb. The Face and Body Cream with olive and hyaluronic acid is awesome! My whole family uses it. It is extremely hydrating and will not break you out. The Mellow Melon cleanser (which can double as a hydrating mask) is so soothing and calming to the skin. It’s very good for drier skin types. And lastly, the Yerba Maté gentle foaming cleanser for oily and blemished skin. This is sort of a cross between a light foam and a cream cleanser, in my opinion, and has been a lifesaver to my skin this winter!
If you are having a hard time with your skin this winter try these tips and get a facial! Even a 30-minute facial can do wonders to get your skin back on track!
